We noticed that the helix was not regularly periodic but with obvious pleomorphism (Fig. 4C and 4D), i.e. the helical pitch distance was not constant and the direction of each turn was not uniform either, which was further evidenced by its poor power spectrum pattern without recognizable layer lines (Fig. 4E).
Sedimentary rock would solve that problem because it is laid down in recognizable horizontal layers.
Kench et al. (2006, 2008) and Nichol and Kench (2008) studied the 2004 IOT deposits at the Maldives and reported that sand sheets and lobes are unlikely to be preserved as recognizable tsunami layers because the sand sheets are extremely thin (average of 1 cm) in those research fields.
Numerical modeling of sediment transport on the Sendai Plain in northeast Japan, which was caused by the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami, was performed to investigate why onshore tsunami deposits included small amounts of marine materials and to explain the gap between the maximum inland extent of the recognizable sand layer and the limit of inundation.
Given that endodermal layers are recognizable in the stem and petiole cortices (e.g. Fig. 5f), we are certain that the absence of an internal endodermis is an original feature, and not the result of inadequate preservation.
MG are also strong candidates for establishing the IPL, because retinal reaggregates form recognizable cell and plexiform layers when grown in the presence of a monolayer of MG (Willbold et al., 2000), but are disorganized and structurally inverted in the absence of MG (Layer et al., 1998).
Thus, brain regions, nuclei and layers were clearly recognizable throughout the brains of podxl embryos, including the layered organization of the cerebral cortex, olfactory bulb and cerebellum, and the nuclear distribution in the thalamus and brain stem (Fig. 3a j).
Cross-sectional examination of recognizable fiber, pigment/dye, and paint layers between the innermost and the outmost suggests the complexity of painting/decoration process and the elaborateness of preparation for Hexi painting.
The following parameters are assessed: thickness of stratum corneum (SC), measured from skin surface to the first recognizable nucleus in the granular layer; and minimal thickness of epidermis (DP), defined as the distance between the skin surface and the most apical recognizable dermal structure [8, 11].
