Inability to control drinking (IC Qratings) on the other hand was associated with reduced gray matter in inferior parietal lobule, an area associated among other functions with selective attention (e.g. Mennemeier et al. 1994; Shomstein, Kravitz & Behrmann 2012), the recognition of affect (Mandal et al. 1999) and bodily sensory input (Cutting 1991).
Similarly, a lack of maternal expressed emotion toward the child is associated with antisociality and poor recognition of negative affect processes and signals (such as fear and anger) may contribute to an escalation of aggressive responses (Caspi et al. [2004]).
Recognition of facial affect has been investigated mostly using pictures of static or dynamic facial expressions of emotions that have to be attributed to an emotion (see [ 40] for a review).
One of the most commonly accepted theoretical models of EI relies on emotion perception i.e. recognition of facial affect, as a lower order branch upon which higher order branches such as emotion management depend [ 18].
Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we measured empathic brain responses with an 'empathy for pain' paradigm assessing empathic brain responses in a real-life social setting that does not rely on attention to, or recognition of, facial affect cues.
These findings support the view that the amygdala is crucial for recognition of facial affect, can process such information rapidly, and in turn modulate activation in the ventral visual processing stream, even when stimuli are presented below the threshold for conscious detection [ 11].
Finally, we tested the behavioural responses to changes in the quantity of these colonymate recognition cues and how combinations of different synthetic recognition cues affected the expression of aggression toward treated colonymates.
We present the results of affect recognition using audio and video channels of the music video clips, individually.
We show that using the proposed methodology, a relatively high performance (up to 90%) of affect recognition is obtained.
