But what it lacks in modern conveniences – there's no running water or toilet – it makes up for in San Francisco's favorite design touch: reclaimed wood walls.
Combining the visionary designs of architect Claudio Nardi and the convivial hospitality of his hotelier daughter, Riva Lofts is a dreamily rustic boutique bed and breakfast that's filled with contemporary artworks, enormous antique mirrors leant against the reclaimed stone walls, and an array of vintage chairs ranging from Louis XIV to Mies van der Rohe.
Now Mr. Jacobs is back in the Hamptons with a place of his own, a rustic-looking spot with reclaimed-wood walls, bare wood tables and wooden chairs.
The space is bright and airy, with whitewashed brick walls, reclaimed wood, and a manifesto about living the "sweetlife" printed in an ultra-thin sans-serif font.
The space was lavishly retrofitted with an eighty-foot glass wall, reclaimed-wood tables, ceiling-mounted fireplaces, and seventy kinds of modernist chairs.

Among features of note is a living room with a wall of reclaimed brick, an eat-in country-style kitchen and a gentleman's lounge complete with a mirrored wet bar and black-lacquered ceiling.
Mr. Gorham built out the storefront, fashioning picnic tables and lining the floors and walls with reclaimed wood he painstakingly milled.
