As a result, today women are half the US workforce, receive more academic degrees than men, and earn a significant share of household income, with 25% of married women earning more than their husbands.
On the other hand, women and groups underrepresented in the scientific workforce receive a greater share of NIH-funded fellowship and traineeship slots than research assistantships.

Giorla also touted district attorney Seth Williams' pilot program, called The Choice is Yours, which "offers nonviolent felony drug offenders a chance to avoid prison sentences and instead receive education and workforce training, along with social services and supports".
"By 2019, we estimate that 609,000, or 41.3% of the covered workforce, will receive a wage increase from the proposed law," the researchers wrote in March 2015.
Only a fraction of the workforce receives unemployment benefits, while pensions are underfunded and haphazardly administered.
