The idea was to create a "distraction-free space," the show's director, Anna Newell, explained, so that "you can introduce stimuli really specifically".
He wanted to "make a song by myself that felt like a band, really specifically, that moved up and up and up, the way 'Heroes,' by David Bowie, or 'Transmission,' by Joy Division, does".
"Stro likes to really exploit the way I move, which no one had done before 'Thou Shalt Not,' and she choreographs really specifically for my body in a way that makes me feel like an actual dancer," Mr. Butz said.
