Bread is the staff of life, but it is also, as Apollonia noted, "the perfect vehicle to talk about really essential things — a revolution, a religion, a theory".
Realize that all really essential things cannot be done.
"But of course, there's only a finite number of hours in the day and years in a lifetime, so we've got to be thinking through what really are the essential things for these students to know," Levine says.
