To better reflect the real alignment problems of interest, simulated reads are derived from the human genome (NCBI Build 36.1), rather than constructing an artificial random genome to permit the assessment of the sensitivity and accuracy of alignment of short reads that contain variants including errors, single base mismatches, insertions, and deletions as well as combinations.
