People have been examining their urine and stools for signs of disease since Roman times and, after the association of diabetes with excess sugar in the early part of the 19th century, the English physician and physiologist George Oliver began marketing a range of urine reagent papers for home use in 1883.
In the subsequent work [ 65], a completely automated sAA activity system was fabricated using a disposable test-strip equipped with built-in collecting and reagent papers as well as an automatic saliva transfer device.
