Our previous research [ 14] has suggested that although treatment discontinuation for any cause (switch or discontinuation) is an important proxy measure of a medication's effectiveness, the differences between antipsychotic medications on this proxy measure may be primarily driven by switching of the medication (when switching is a study option) rather than discontinuation.
