The experiment consisted of a completely randomized block design with two organic matter sources and four rates of amendment (0, 20, 40 and 80 Mg ha− 1 organic carbon).
The application of soil amendments shifted Cd distributions from residual and exchangeable to carbonate, organic matter, and Fe and Mn oxide fractions, especially in 2% application rate of each amendment (Fig. 5a).
The increased in the total CO2-C evolution with increasing rate of biochar amendment is consistent with the results of Smith et al. (2010) who reported increased CO2-C evolution in soils amended with switchgrass biochar pyrolyzed at 500 °C, which increased with increasing rates of biochar application due to increased labile C added at higher rates.
