Adverse events associated with LIRA were nausea (6/11), diarrhea (6/11), headache (3/11), and rash at the injection site during the first week (1/11).

Among these patients, 68% were older than 60 and started to occur after 6 ~ 8 weeks of the procedure; and (vi) skin: 1% (a localized rash around the injection site after 1 ~ 2 days of the procedure) (Table  4).

Mild side effects can include: Swelling or rash around the injection site (about 1 in 20 people).

This may range from urticarial rash at the injection site to an anaphylactic life threatening reaction, although fortunately this is a rare occurrence.

There was a 0.1% incidence of varicella-like rashes at the injection site of vaccine recipients compared with 0.04% of placebo recipients (P < 0.05) (Oxman et al 2005).

Interestingly, injection-related adverse events such as injection site rash, were not reported in any of the LEAD trials.
