Rare map collections support research across disciplines.
The library hasn't decided when to exhibit the rare map.
I have a son, Tom, who has autism ("A Boy, a Mother and a Rare Map of Autism's World," Nov. 19).
One of those who see need for improvement is Robert W. Craig, the principal historic preservation specialist at the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office, who said that in the course of writing a paper a few years ago he had asked the library whether it had a copy of a rare map by L.F. Douglass.
("Every map dealer has a drawer full of maps of France," Kenneth Nebenzahl, a Chicago dealer, told me. "The French just have no interest. Don't ask me why. And if you've got a rare map of Lower Slobovia, no matter how beautiful it is, you'll never sell it").
