A number of studies in nonhuman primates and humans have measured visuospatial orienting (i.e., rapid orientation of gaze and attention to a new stimulus appearing in a new spatial location) as a dependent variable to examine a variety of cognitive processes (Hutton, 2008; Johnston & Everling, 2008; Luna, Velanova, & Geier, 2008; McDowell, Dyckman, Austin, & Clementz, 2008).
