An experiment was conducted using tef on Chromic Cambisols for two rainy cropping seasons (2008 2009) in northern Ethiopia.
The phenotypic data collected for three consecutive post-rainy crop seasons on the RIL population (M35-1 × B35) was used for QTL analysis.
The early rainy season crop covered the period from May to October 2009, while the dry season crop covered the period from November 2009 to April 2010.
Four-week-old plants of S. melongena were planted at the end of July 2013 and 2014 for the rainy season crop and at the end of April 2013 and 2014 for the summer season crop.
After harvest of maize and cowpea, mustard was planted as a post rainy season crop and all the mustard plant residues were returned to their respective plots as residue cover except FP.
With regard to fruit quality parameters, the NAD@60 ppm induced maximum increase in TSS (13.12 °B), total sugars (8.85%), TSS: acid ratio, total sugars: acid ratio, vitamin C (187.60 mg/100 g) and maximum decrease in titratable acidity over control in winter season as well as in rainy season crop.
Pearl millet is the main rainy season crop along with guar, chickpea, and green gram.
To utilize these fallows for rainy season cropping and improving water use efficiency, a field experiment was carried out for three consecutive years (2009 2012) in arid zone.
At both locations, the rainy season crops were followed by a wheat cultivar UP 2338 at four nitrogen levels applied in a split plot design, which at Patancheru were 0, 30, 90 and 120 kg N ha−1 and at Modipuram 0, 60, 120 and 180 kg N ha−1.
The experiment was laid out in split plot design with two planting systems i.e. bed planting and conventional planting in main plots and five rainy season cropping systems in sub plots viz., sorghum intercropped with Sesbania (green manuring/brown manuring), green gram and cowpea in 2 2 ratio and sole sorghum replicated thrice.
