The existence of a solid inner core places constraints on the volatile content of the core and an upper limit to the concentration can be derived depending on the radioactive heat source density in the mantle, the thermal history, the nature of the volatiles, and the details of the melting relations.
While the metal itself is radioactive, its high density makes it more effective than lead in halting radiation from strong sources such as radium.
We also consider the relationship between heat flow density and radioactive heat production rate to further confirm our CPD results.
Our estimated equivalent depth extent of heat flow density and radioactive heat production also falls within the margins of the CPD values for the region, despite that they were computed independent of each other.
