He is the youngest 2700 in chess history, inviting comparisons with the phenomenal quantum jumps made by Fischer, Kasparov and Carlsen in their mid-teens.
These lines correspond to quantum jumps in which the angular momentum along the magnetic field is increased by one unit, decreased by one unit, or left unchanged.
Dehmelt and his colleagues went on to develop methods for measuring atomic frequencies and individual quantum jumps (the transitions between atomic energy levels) with unprecedented precision.
The improvements are largely a result of the quantum jumps in computer capabilities in recent years, said Syed Omar Ishrak, vice president for the ultrasound division at GE Medical Systems.
"Premiums have nearly doubled," said Chad Milton, a senior vice president of the insurance brokerage firm Marsh and an expert in media insurance, referring to insurance programs for large companies, "and deductibles have gone up in quantum jumps".
The yellow "D" lines of sodium (see D-lines) or the "H" and "K" lines of ionized calcium (seen as dark absorption lines) are produced by discrete quantum jumps from the lowest energy levels (ground states) of these atoms.
