The Royal College of Physicians has written to the government suggesting that guidelines should reflect recent evidence suggesting that frequency of drinking is important in disease risk, rather than simply quantity per day.
Both of these reasons support excluding insulin quantity per day from persistence determination.
Descriptive analysis also indicated that the number of claims requirement, as opposed to the insulin quantity per day, largely determined persistence status.
