Table 1 summarizes cohort and case control studies of bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and multiple myeloma using a higher quality exposure assessment methodology; summaries of the other cancer sites can be found in the Toxicological Review (U.S. EPA 2012b).
While our predictions have been evaluated by CASP assessors and will be discussed elsewhere, this study outlines CASP8 targets and predictions from several perspectives: protein evolutionary analysis, prediction quality and assessment methodology.
Gibson et al. [ 18] conclude that the studies available for examining the relationship between dairy food consumption and coronary heart disease (CHD) vary too much in design, quality, and dietary assessment methodology.
Details of the quality assessment included the methodology of randomization, the adequacy of allocation concealment, whether a blind or double-blind method was used, whether an intention-to-treat analysis was utilized and descriptions of withdrawals, and follow-up.
The concept of incorporating study quality assessment into systematic review methodology has also found empirical support.
After independent assessment, there was a 95% agreement level between the two assessors against the criteria specified for the quality assessment of the study methodology (box 1).
The characteristics of the included studies are summarized in Tables 2 and 3, and the quality assessment ratings for study methodology are presented in Table 4.
