Campaigners against Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories have launched a new web and iPhone application that uses powerful mapping technologies to publicise data that was previously hidden away, inaccessible, or simply too costly to distribute.
The report, the work of a panel led by the former UN official Charles Petrie, details how the organisation failed to publicise authoritative data about the human toll of the fighting as casualties mounted.
The study (tinyurl.com/2hto4q) concluded that the government is failing to exploit this information to the full, largely because public bodies are bad at publicising what data they have and at making it easy for businesses to re-use.
So for instance, King.com is a public company whose data is publicised quarterly and derives over 70percentt of its revenue from mobile — 95percentt of which is from three games.
In Ireland, a summary of information used in HTA should be publicised even if the underlying data has not been fully disclosed up to that point in order to ensure transparency [ 24], whereas in the Netherlands final reports should ideally only include public data [ 35].
Three people are currently being pursued by the courts, accused of violating trade secrecy: the main whistleblower, a diffident and bespectacled 28-year-old Frenchman named Antoine Deltour; a second, anonymous whistleblower; and a French journalist, Edouard Perrin (who first helped publicise the leaked data and is being pursued as an accomplice).

Gulliver said media organisations had focused on 140 names included in the data, and said many had been publicised "simply because they are well-known individuals".

We further suggest publicising the immunohistochemistry raw data sets in order to allow re-analyses and insightful meta-analytic studies.
