A review applying a systematic approach and conducted using MEDLINE®, Embase®, and the Cochrane Library for English-language publications (timeframe: 01/1984 03/2011) captured 180 studies and data from publically available registries and assessed the impact of transfusions on allosensitization and graft survival, and the impact of allosensitization on graft survival and wait time.
In other words, no public timeframe.
Seven/15 publications reported timeframes: School programs AIME [ 34– 36] and National Indigenous Mentoring Pilots Program [ 31] invested one hour per week; Show Me The Way [ 27] a minimum of 30 minutes fortnightly; PASS Australia [ 26] one day per week; while the Panyappi Program [ 33] reported an intensive 15-20 hours weekly with young people.
While these studies make important contributions to knowledge about mass media reporting on skin cancer and tanning, research gaps remain: there has been no research on North American magazine coverage on skin cancer and tanning since 2006; prior studies typically focused on a limited number of publications; and the timeframe analyses were not linked to major public health reports or decisions.
Thus, a final set of 419 publications met the timeframe requirements and had the citation data needed for the analyses described in this report.
The fifteen publications spanned a timeframe from 1999 to 2012; increasing from 1 per annum from 1999 to 2008, excepting 2005 (n = 2), to two in 2009, three for 2010 and four in 2011; and then to mid-2012 (at the time of the search) only 1 paper had been published (See Figure 3).
Although most of the expert system publications appeared in AIS-oriented publications, by the 2005 2011 timeframe, a little more than 50% appeared in non-system journals.
Another potential limitation stems from our analytical approach regarding change over time; collapsing publication year into three timeframes pre-20022, 2002–2006 and 2007 2010) and testing for trends may have limited our power.
