On the milder end of the spectrum, private-public gaps may relate to personal values, needs, or longings.
To identify the long-run determinants of the dynamics of the public pay gap, we run the following regression: Deltatextrm{Wage Gap}_{ct} = beta^{prime}Delta X^{prime}_{ct}+sum_{t}lambda_{t}+epsilon_{ct} (2).
This variable is positively correlated with the public pay gap, reinforcing the message that a higher monopolistic power of the government sector is associated with a higher wage gap.
