A counterpart of the prtR gene (ptbA) is present but, unlike prtR, it is transcribed from the same DNA strand as the tail and lysis genes.
Just upstream of prtR in WH6 is prtI, which encodes a candidate ECF σ70 factor.
Because loss of prtR led to a loss of GAF activity, PrtR is likely an activator rather than a repressor, as was the case in P. fluorescens LS107d2 [ 39].

The P. aeruginosa prtR and prtN genes are located upstream of the pyocin clusters, in opposite orientation (Ghequire and De Mot 2014).
It also carries an Rp1-type of regulatory module (rtsB– rtsA, equivalent of prtR– prtN) but lacks the accessory ptrB gene that coordinates pyocin production and expression of Type III secretion in P. aeruginosa (Wu and Jin 2005).
Another deviation from the prototypical R-type pyocin gene organization is the absence of equivalents of the P. aeruginosa regulatory genes prtN and ptrB, located downstream and upstream of prtR, respectively (fig. 2).
Of the 19 identified in WH6, ten are part of the core set common to all four sequenced P. fluorescens isolates and included prtI and prtR, which we identified as necessary for GAF activity.

However, points out Cabrera-Rivera, "While it would be important to include some other pollutants on the PRTR lists, this should be done by prioritizing based on sector pollutant profiles, as well as the potential risk posed by pollutants of concern, since all pollutants are not equal".
