We have identified stable configurations of proximal water molecules for an oligomer undergoing conformational transition.

Our simulations suggest that the solubility, solvation dynamics, and conformation of the oligomers are dictated by two factors: (a) the local structure of proximal water and (b) the diffusion and exchange kinetics of proximal water with bulk water.

The slow diffusional properties of proximal water molecules near PNIPAM oligomers suggests that water forms a stable network near hydrophilic groups of PNIPAM as compared to the hydrophilic groups of PAA and PEG.

On the other hand, non-thermo-sensitive oligomers such as PAA and PEG are characterized by much faster diffusion and exchange kinetics of proximal water at the two simulated temperatures compared to PNIPAM.

Recently, a proximal water, as opposed to His189, was suggested as the phenolic proton acceptor during PCET from TyrD-OH under physiological conditions (pH < 6.5).

However, this does not preclude TyrD-OH from H-bonding to a proximal water which then translocates upon acceptance of the phenolic proton.

Its renal effects include decreased renal vascular resistance, increased GFR, increased natriuresis through inhibition of the Na/H exchanger and Na/K/ATPase-mediated sodium reabsorption in the proximal tubules, and water diuresis via the inhibition of antidiuretic hormone (ADH).

Further, although transmission of enteric pathogens has been linked to proximal factors of water quality, sanitation and hygiene practices, the relationship between distal social and ecologic factors (e.g., increased population density and regional scale water patterns) and diarrheal disease remains poorly understood (Curriero et al. 2001).

A PEC/TC matrix of this environmental change/infectious disease example illustrates that there is strong risk factor evidence for the relationship between the proximal factors of water quality as well as sanitation and hygiene levels and transmission of enteric pathogens.

Within a 5 Å radius of the TyrD side chain lie 12 nonpolar AAs (green shading in Table 2) and 4 polar residues, which include the nearby crystallographic "proximal" and "distal" waters.

Figure 5 illustrates a mapping of the distal environmental change, due to road proximity, to the proximal environmental factors associated with water sanitation and hygiene that directly influence disease transmission.
