The Provisional Diagnostic Instrument (PDI-4) is a brief, adult self-report instrument for 4 common psychiatric diagnoses in primary care patients: major depressive episode (MDE), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and bipolar I disorder based on past or present mania.

The aim of this study was to provide researchers and clinicians with a comprehensive evaluation of some of the fundamental psychometric measurement properties of the provisional PU-QOL instrument.
The result was a provisional 21-item instrument comprising 2 parts: a descriptive part (11 items), which included questions about resources devoted to treatment, and a scale part (10 items), which included questions about treatment burden and overall satisfaction.
This approach has some limitations [ 29] but is widely used and provides at least provisional evidence for the instrument's sensitivity.
