The criteria addressed different aspects of care such as greetings, self-introduction, companionship during labour, privacy, cleanliness, provision of basic facilities (e.g. bathroom, toilets), birthing positions, communication skills, respect for women, and client satisfaction.
But the lack of basic facilities there is proving to be a major headache.
Despite considerable achievements in the provision of basic developmental facilities in terms of drinking water, access to primary healthcare services, high-quality and nutritious food, social services, and proper housing facilities, there are many rural and slum communities in Iran where these essential needs remain unfulfilled.
The support to be provided is based on the identified needs of each facility and includes expansion/renovation of existing facilities, provision of basic equipment, and water and electricity connections, among others.
Instead, the state has brought this about by a combination of radical land reform and effective provision of basic services like education, medical facilities and public food distribution.
A stronger emphasis should be placed on improving the current facilities, to enable provision of basic emergency obstetric care, and efficient use of the existing facilities.
The donation will also help support the construction of sanitation facilities and the provision of basic hygiene education.
The conflict has seriously disrupted the provision of basic health services: at least 29 health facilities have closed in Helmand, Nangarhar, Paktia and Uruzgan provinces.1 Many children continue to live in areas that are not under government control and as a result, lack access to basic health services, such as routine immunization against measles and other preventable diseases.
