Additional significant influencing factors were included in adults' FeNO norms [ 9– 24]: race, ethnicity, atopy, allergy, total IgE, serum eosinophil cationic protein, smoking status, interaction between sex and smoking habits, asthma diagnosis, ambient NO, and upper respiratory tract infection symptoms.
After adjusting for multiple covariables, retinopathy signs were associated with higher levels of HbA1c (odds ratio [OR], 2.4; 95% CI, 1.3-4.5; per% increase), systolic blood pressure (OR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.01-1.03; per mmHg increase) and serum creatinine (OR, 1.005; 95% CI, 1.002-1.009; per mm increase), but not C-reactive protein, cigarette smoking or lipid levels.
The second model (Model 2) was additionally adjusted for albumin, C-reactive protein, current smoking status, native fistula and echocardiographic data (ejection fraction ≤60% versus >60%).
The third step of the analysis was to adjust the estimates by including the following demographic and clinical variables collected at baseline: sex, age, body mass index, presence of diabetes, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, c-reactive protein, current smoking status, and waist-to-hip ratio.
Clinical predictors of radiographic progression identified to date include elevated C-reactive protein, tobacco smoking, and the presence of baseline syndesmophytes.
An earlier study found that intakes of carbohydrate, animal protein, and smoking were significantly positively associated with the prevalence of general hypertension, even after controlling for body-mass index and other nutrients (24).
MBL levels correlated weakly with BMI (r = -0.155, P = 0.014), HbA1c (r = 0.165, P = 0.034) and hip circumference (-0.169, P = 0.030), but not with sex, age, blood pressure, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), smoking status, total cholesterol, fasting triglycerides, and plasma SC5b-9.
The remaining eleven information categories were Cholesterol, LDL (low density lipo-protein), HDL (high density lipo-protein), weight, smoking, CHD (coronary heart disease), diabetes, hypertension, heredity, sex and age.
Our results revealed no significant association between common genetic variations in genes encoding MOR and MOR-interacting proteins and smoking behaviors of Chinese men, and presented suggestive evidence for the association between the MOR-interacting protein encoding gene and smoking status (current smokers vs. ex-smokers).
The demonstration of correlations of levels of immunosuppressive acute phase proteins with smoking extent and age among normal subjects suggests that changes in the levels of these proteins may be related etiologically to the association of smoking [ 15].
After all, this is the primary study exploring the role of genetic variations of MOR-interacting proteins in smoking behaviors.
