"It is a verdict given in a pro-prosecution environment," said Mehreen Zahra-Malik, an assistant editor of The News, a leading English-language daily.
"Thailand already has an environment of prosecution and surveillance," Earp added.
"The defendant is obviously not used to this sort of environment," the prosecution lawyer says.

Yet this is a case of successful detection and prosecution in a digital environment where the majority of pharmaceutical crime often goes undetected.
"When you let a jury sit around for six months in what my sense is an undisciplined, unfocused and meandering prosecution, you almost create an environment that makes the possibility of personality conflicts all the greater," said Kirby Behre, a former federal prosecutor who is a white-collar defense lawyer based in Washington for Paul, Hastings.

In April 2010 the five companies accused of causing the explosion faced a criminal prosecution brought by the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency.
"No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution," Kelner said.
