The proposed intensity transfer function is an adaptive hyperbolic tangent function based on the local statistical characteristics of the image.
Fortunately, the proposed intensity ratio appears to be independent of oil concentration (in analysed concentrations from zero to several hundred ppm).
In Figure 10e, it is clear that the proposed intensity transfer function restores the fine details in dark regions but decreases the local contrast in bright regions in the resulting image.
More specifically, when the local mean value of the input pixel is small, the proposed intensity transfer function (11) inclines to provide an intensity mapping curve with large curvature for enhancing the intensity of the input pixel.
By combining the proposed intensity transfer function with SDRCLCE algorithm, the proposed method possesses the adjustability to separately control the level of enhancement on the overall lightness and contrast achieved at the output.
Finally, the conditional approach risk analysis on the steel door is compared against the results obtained through the comprehensive (probabilistic) unconditional approach, showing the validity of both the proposed intensity measure and safety factor formulation.

In addition to applications for individual-level allele frequency, the proposed intensity-measuring approach can be easily applied to study population-level allele frequency.
To compare retinal visualization using the proposed intensity-based motion contrast methods with the phase contrast method, the DPV en face image (Fig. 7(h)) is generated by summing DPVs over the same regions in the inner retina.
For example, in a pooled allelotyping experiment [ 2, 26- 31], individual genotype information is not available, thereby the allele-counting approach fails to be applied; the proposed intensity-measuring approach, however, works well in this type of experiment (Appendix A).
To validate the proposed intensity-based methods for providing motion contrasts and compare them with each other and DPV method [ 12, 17], we used a prototype 50 kHz phase sensitive SS-OCT system, incorporating a polygon-based 1060 nm (1015-1103) swept laser source [ 31], with ~5.9 μm axial resolution in tissue and 102 dB sensitivity (1.2 mW incident power).
