A lower proportion of chicken samples (0.4%, 7/1,865) tested positive.
The proportion of chicken was higher than expected with 79% observed versus 60% expected, in accordance with the 60% sampling fraction (p = 0.034, χ test).
The proportion of chicken contaminated with ceftiofur-resistant E. coli closely followed changes in ceftiofur resistance (Table) because commensal E. coli was recovered from almost all (89%100%%) chicken samples collected.

While the proportion of chickens shedding virus and the replication kinetics matched those of other low-pathogenic H5N2 strains, the efficient replication of these viruses indicated that they have the potential to spread if introduced into domestic poultry populations; therefore, they warrant continued surveillance.
Observed and modelled percentages of samples exceeding three thresholds, 100, 1000 and 10000 ppb by wet weight, are shown in Table 3 and the modelled and observed distributions of values are in Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Very small proportions of chicken samples exceeded the 100 ppb wet weight threshold and none exceed the other two thresholds.
