The catalyst powder and bentonite clay were mixed together thoroughly, according to the different weight proportions of catalyst to bentonite (e.g., 50 50, 60 40, 70 30, 80 20) to prepare a paste with water, which was then managed to fill the hand extruder and pressed manually to come out in the shape of a noodle.
The acid/base co-catalyst with a lower proportion of base catalyst reduces particle size of the TiO2 and increases its cluster size including pore volume, which enhance short-circuit current density and open-circuit voltage of the DSSCs device by reducing charge transfer loss across the TiO2/redox electrolyte interface.
