Recently, two independent groups determined the occurrence of mA system-wide using RNA-immunoprecipitation methods followed by next generation sequencing [ 47,48 ]. mA was found in more than 7000 mRNAs and over 200 long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and the conserved most pronounced location of this modification was in stop codons, 3′UTRs and long internal exons in human, mouse and yeast [ 47,48,49].
