The species, Mesoplodon hotaula, is a dark blue, Volkswagen-van-sized cetacean with the prominent snout that gives beaked whales their common name.
It does not have a prominent snout.
The myriad of names used to describe these lesions include "blunt duct adenosis" [ 3, 4], "clinging carcinoma" [ 5, 6], "columnar alteration with prominent apical snouts and secretions" [ 1], "atypical ductal cells with apocrine snouts" [ 7], "atypical cystic lobules" [ 8- 10], and "well-differentiated DCIS with a clinging architecture" [ 11].
This lack of consensus is reflected in the different terms used in literature: atypical lobule; cystic change; atypical cystic alteration; flat epithelial hyperplasia; and the aforementioned columnar alteration with prominent apical snouts and secretions and clinging type of DCIS.
Only two specimens the columnar lesions showed more than two cell layers and had prominent apical cytoplasmic snouts; these were classified as columnar cell hyperplasia without atypia (CCH).
A particular lesion detected by microcalcifications is described by Fraser et al. [ 14]: 'We have noted in breast biopsies performed for microcalcifications a spectrum of lesions in the terminal duct lobular unit characterised by columnar epithelial cells with prominent apical cytoplasmic snouts, intraluminal secretions, and varying degrees of nuclear atypia and architectural complexity.
Since Pugs lack longer snouts and prominent skeletal brow ridges, they are susceptible to eye injuries such as proptosis, scratched corneas, and painful entropion.
It has a long, broad snout with prominent nasal skin flaps, and tall, triangular upper teeth.
Like other bullhead sharks, the horn shark has a short, wide head with a blunt snout and prominent supraorbital ridges over the eyes.
