The IPCC went even further, stating that climate change impacts are projected "to prolong existing and create new poverty traps".
According to the IPCC, "Throughout the 21st century, climate-change impacts are projected to slow down economic growth, make poverty reduction more difficult, further erode food security, and prolong existing and create new poverty traps".
The most recent report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, approved by 195 of the world's nations, concluded that limiting the impacts of global warming "is necessary to achieve sustainable development and equity, including poverty eradication" and that climate change impacts are projected "to prolong existing and create new poverty traps".

A serious TEAE was any untoward medical occurrence that resulted in death; was life-threatening; required inpatient hospitalization or prolonged existing hospitalization; resulted in persistent or significant disability/incapacity; was a congenital abnormality/birth defect; or was an Important Medical Event.
Serious adverse events were defined as fatal or immediately life-threatening; requiring inpatient hospitalisation or prolonging existing hospitalisation; resulting in persistent or significant disability/incapacity; congenital anomaly; or requiring medical or surgical intervention to prevent a serious outcome.
SAEs were defined as events that were life-threatening or resulted in death, required in-patient hospitalization or prolonged existing hospitalization, resulted in persistent or significant disability or incapacity, resulted in a congenital anomaly or birth defect, or were regarded as an important medical event.
A SAE or reaction is any untoward medical occurrence (at any dose) that: a) results in death, b) is life-threatening, c) requires inpatient hospitalization or prolongs an existing hospitalization, d) results in persistent or significant disability/incapacity or, is a congenital anomaly or birth defect in an infant exposed prenatally.
What was being negotiated last month was prolonging an existing bailout arrangement by several months.
