In the attempt to explain these apparent discrepancies those authors hypothesized that calcium may regulate cell proliferation by two different pathways: 1) with predominant growth inhibition in cases of high CaSR expression or activation, but with prevailing stimulation of proliferation in cases of low CaSR expression.
