(A ) Z-projections of representative deconvolved fluorescence microscopy images are shown from wild type yeast cells expressing the indicated integrated GFP-tagged MICOS protein and mito-DsRed.
Most striking, however, were helical wheel projections of several representative tracts that revealed the strongly amphipathic character of these sequences, resulting from the asymmetric recurrence of conserved hydrophobic residues on one side of a helix.
We used the areas of these projections as representative of the volumes of the respective conformational spaces, and have calculated the densities on this basis.
