One of Merce Cunningham's most powerful Event performances was presented there, set against the uncanny, glowing backdrop of Olafur Eliasson's Weather Project installation.
The dancing, spread through the enormous Turbine Hall, looked utterly wonderful and was enriched by the really beautiful Weather Project installation by Olafur Eliasson.
He achieved this most brilliantly in 2003, when more than a million people wandered in the unearthly ochre light of the vast "sun" of his Weather Project installation at Tate Modern.
Like the bigger room, and like Mr. Eliasson's "Weather Project" installation at the Tate, the work makes art out of the low-tech mechanics behind its own smoke and mirrors.
The Danish-Icelandic artist is known for attention- and eye-catching large installations that create a sense of atmosphere through the use of water, air, space and light - for example, his Weather Project installation of a huge "sun" in Tate Modern in 2003, or the artificial waterfalls he placed around New York in 2008.
Putting together extracts from the repertory into sequences that were tailored to fit each different space, Cunningham was able to tour his choreography far beyond theatres, to gyms, galleries and, in 2003, to the Turbine Hall of Tate Modern, where his company performed in sublime consort with Olafur Eliasson's Weather Project installation.
Through this project, installation of the rapid response application for Istanbul was achieved successfully following the steps mentioned above.
