The group has doubled in size in the last year, to 600 professional women 50 and over, and spawned imitators, including two start-ups, Project Continuum, for alumnae of Barnard College, and WomanSage, in Orange County, Calif.
How is it that my alma mater, Barnard College, has tracked me down just in time for my birthday at the end of May with an invitation to attend a meeting of Project Continuum, which solemnly describes itself as addressing "the needs of alumnae who are 50 and older," said needs having been adduced to include "navigating the health care system" and "memory training".
Artist Mary Huang's project called Continuum explores what she calls "computational couture" and allows you to easily create a bespoke piece of fashion that is sized and designed exclusively to your preferences.
Shelton, Mindel & Associates won the interior design award; the landscape designers Gustafson Guthrie Nichol were recognized for their contributions to Millennium Park in Chicago, among other projects; and Continuum, an industrial design consultancy that works on everything from showerheads to wheelchairs (above), received the award for product design.
