In summary, the work presented here supports a general mechanism in HD whereby the chronic expression of expanded repeat HTT promotes general protein misfolding and initiation of stress response pathways that promote SUMO-2 modification of HTT, progressively resulting in accumulation of insoluble and HMW species that may be a reflection of ongoing pathogenesis.
