Individuals who participate in research activities during undergraduate education, including future non-researchers, develop leadership skills that enable local/regional actuation in the context of their profession and specialization [ 14, 17, 22- 24].
Most of the employees were specialist in their profession or under specialization.
In all but a few of the sites, baseline demographic information was also collected, including gender, age, profession, and medical specialization.
The solution that the medical profession has favored is specialization.
Specialization allows professions to develop their own expertise, but also makes it more difficult to then integrate their various contributions in order to deliver optimal care [ 4].
The course selection is one of the important decisions that affect academic careers of students and their specialization in the profession.
The importance of geriatric knowledge and assessment has been investigated in previous studies [ 10, 42, 43]; there, it was argued that increasing specialization within health professions and fragmentation through disciplinary knowledge may result in inappropriate decisions that fail to meet the complex needs of patients [ 10, 40].
It is explained that facilitating their application requires thinking about skills less in terms of traditional crafts and professions, and more in terms of specialization, localization, rationalization, and democratization.
Implications concern the role of education and specialization in the empowerment of the profession and the professional.
Although 89.8% of respondents considered FM to have an essential social function, fewer than 20% thought it had a high status within the medical profession, had a scientific prestige similar to other specializations, or was an interesting medical specialty from the standpoint of research (Table 2).
