The HDSS sites are well placed when it comes to testing innovative solutions to existing and emerging health challenges, offering possibilities for scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of new products, interventions, or packages of interventions such as Integrated Management of Adult Illnesses (IMAI).
This program will be further detailed in a forthcoming article, however, it is conceived as the launching ground for methods and tools of innovative technologies, products, interventions, and strategies suitable to integrate into a country's health system, policies and strategies for IRD outbreak protection.
Although a decision-making process in the field of nutrition economics will in general not involve reimbursement for individual products, interventions to change public awareness of, and attitudes to, nutrition will have a cost, which needs to be justified against other uses of health budgets.

Future research should focus in particular upon investigating the differential impact of modification of food products and restrictions on advertising/marketing through controls or bans ("Prescriptive" and "Product" interventions).
The finding that upesi jiko adoption was greater in households that had been treating water more frequently is consistent with the hypothesis that health messages and corresponding product interventions reinforced one another.
