Media research is commonly categorized into three main areas: production, representation and reception by audiences [ 11].
The representation (Eq. 4) describes the ratio production operation and is referred to as the production representation.
In total, 246 single result statements were extracted, which we summarize below according to the three areas of media research: production, representation and reception.
In particular, research in this field could benefit from the use of a theoretical perspective that links together media production, representation and reception through its relation to culture.
To describe the nature of the research, we extracted data regarding the researchers' disciplinary background, the type of article, the research approach, characteristics related to methodological reporting and assessment, and the type of media research (i.e., production, representation, reception).
Most importantly, however, future research needs to be collaborative, involving researchers across disciplines, journalists and CAM users so that issues related to production, representation and reception can be studied in a rigorous and comprehensive manner.
This operation of the mind, called "production of representations" ["Vorstellungsproduktion"], became an important and fruitful, although controversial, notion in Gestalt psychology, as Meinong still acknowledges the primacy of elementary representations.
The result of such techniques is the production of representations that have in some interesting sense a complexity whose constituent structure is largely implicit in that the constituents are not tokened explicitly when the representations are tokened, but can be recovered by further operations upon them.
But the point here is that even if Millikan is right that representational status is determined by use (as it is, in part, on Dretske's proposal) it does not follow that the the production of representations is irrelevant to determining their content (as it is not on Dretske's proposal).
Cognitive mapping is a fundamental human ability to comprehend the world through the production of representations or 'maps in the mind'.
