Health supplies were provided to treat more than 84 per cent of all cholera cases and UNICEF continued to play a key role in the response to the measles outbreak in terms of coordination, procurement and transportation of response supplies.
In particular, it is difficult to accurately constrain costs such as volunteer and labourer coordination, resource procurement (e.g., purchased, hired, or donated), and machinery wear and tear due to infiltration by volcanic ash into air intake filters (Brown et al. 2011a; Hayes et al. 2015).
Global procurement markets require complex coordination among WHO, the GAVI Alliance, UNICEF, and other multilateral institutions to organize purchase and distribution at scale; however, the global health community wrestles even more with local market introduction.
However, there are some initiatives taken to improve coordination and align procurement and distribution within government systems.
