We describe here results of experiments that were designed to investigate whether transcription of a gene in E. coli affects the process of mutagenesis by MMS and the roles played by AlkB and lesion bypass polymerase PolV.
Geneticists are less familiar with his contributions to mutation and how he related the process of mutagenesis to the gene and distinguished gene mutations from other genetic and epigenetic events such as polyploidy, chromosome rearrangements, and position effects.
