In addition, we have trained our research team to follow the following systematic and standardized data collection process: the first citation should be a secondary source, ideally from a peer-reviewed journal, found through academic databases using a combination of MeSH terms and keywords such as those shown in Table 1.
The following databases were searched: Medline, Medline in Process, EMBASE, Science Citation Index, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane CENTRAL Register of Controlled Trials, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE), Health Technology Assessment Database and NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS-EED).
As well as providing all citations which are used during the manual curation process, additional citations which have not been curated by UniProtKB are imported from a range of resources through close collaboration with the providers of other curated databases.
After the screening process, 503 citations were selected to undergo review of the full text article, and a further 52 articles were identified from reference lists, yielding a total of 555 full text articles for review.
We also processed the citations with a conventional summarization method, as well as with a baseline procedure.
