Corrective surgical procedures for congenital cardiovascular diseases which affect the pulmonary arteries result in a characteristic appearance.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death and disability, representing a major burden for health systems worldwide [ 15, 16], and impressive literature has documented geographic variation in the use of medication and procedures for treating cardiovascular disease in Western countries [ 17- 21].
Implementation of a hospital procedure volume minimum policy for cardiovascular procedures would require the transfer of an estimated 231,348 total patients each year, 143,687 patients for CABG, and 87,661 for PCI.
