Eleven items focus on reactive aggression (e.g., Reacted angrily when provoked by others, Gotten angry when frustrated), and twelve items focus on proactive aggression (e.g., Had fights with others to show who was on top; Taken things from other students).
In the first 2-week study period patients were randomised to complete either the daily PROactive item pool, consisting of 30 questions asking patients to report their physical activity experience on a daily basis, or the clinical visit PROactive item pool, of 35 questions using a 7-day recall (see online supplementary material).

After item reduction, the daily PROactive instrument comprised nine items and the clinical visit contained 14.
The 12-item proactive subscale assesses aggression that is displayed to obtain something, i.e., not in reaction to provocation by others (e.g., "how often have you fought to show who was in charge?").
The Peer Aggressive Behavior Scale (PAB-S): The PAB-S is a 39-item self-report questionnaire: 20 items address proactive aggressive behavior and 19 address reactive aggressive behavior.
The only mean value less than 3.00 regarded the category of a proactive lifestyle, while only two items yielded mean values above 4.00.
