In 2005, African medical practitioners subscribed to the Drakensberg declaration on prevention and control of RHD in Africa.
The main outcome of the meeting was a political declaration on their prevention and control [ 27].
In 2011 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Political Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (UNPDNCD), the highest multilateral mechanism addressing NCDs [ 131].
