By formulating and implementing a methodology to evaluate intervention integrity in a complex behaviour change programme, we have made a contribution both to the emerging science of fidelity assessment and to the robust evaluation of these increasingly prevalent interventions.
As CKD is commonly associated with hypertension, most prevalent pharmacological interventions include angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARBs), beta blockers, diuretics, statins and calcium channel blockers (Science JMECfCDaC, 2012, Rayner et al., 2014).
As predicted, the frequency of five different patterns of enterprising interest development (stable high, stable low, decreaser, increaser, middle) differed between the two groups, with increasers and decreasers more prevalent in the intervention group.
Nephropathy and systemic vascular risk factor levels above the recommended limits were more prevalent in the intervention than in the control group (Table 1).
