The mosaic taxon Phthipodochiton, which has been proposed as a stem aplacophoran, does not appear until the Ordovician [ 75, 76]; other fossils from the Silurian, combining aplacophoran and polyplacophoran features with some soft tissue preservation, have also been used to support the Aculifera hypothesis [ 77].
