Most notably, there was no hint of a Reward × Presentation interaction, F 1, 22) < 1, P = 0.367, indicating absence of evidence for the idea that supraliminal rewards produced different (stronger) performance effects than subliminal rewards.
Next, we tested the Reward × Presentation interaction directly, to identify brain areas where activation due to supraliminal Euros (vs. Cents) was different from activation due to subliminal Euros (vs. Cents).
Comparing the cortisol levels at baseline with the average of all cortisol levels measured after the first stimulus was presented revealed that the average cortisol levels did not change over days (Days: F3,12 = 0.31, p < 0.8192), but tended to be affected by the stimuli (Stimulus presentation: F1,4 = 2.98, p < 0.1596; Days by Stimulus presentation interaction: F3,12 = 3.10, p < 0.0672).
In the negative condition, neither the main effects of Time or Presentation were significant, Fs < 1, and nor was the Time x Presentation interaction, F 1, 39) = 1.14, p =.29, suggesting no change in mood over the stressful anagram task in the negatively trained group (see Table 2).
The questionnaire utilizes a rating scale ranging from 1 point ("agree not at all") to 5 points ("completely agree") and additional free text answers, and covers four main areas (seminar concept and presentation, interaction with students, level of interest/relevance and difficulty/quantity/speed).
